Unbeaten centuries from Karim Sadiq and Mohammad Shahzad saw Afghanistan to a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Scotland.

Chasing a target of 225 at the Cambusdoon New Ground in Ayr, the visitors suffered an early blow when they lost Noor Ali Zadran for six.

However that proved to be the only breakthrough for the Scots, as Sadiq and Shahzad shared an unbroken second-wicket stand worth 218.

Opener Sadiq hit 11 fours and three sixes as he finished up unbeaten on 114 - his maiden hundred in one-day internationals - from just 108 balls.

Shahzad was even more impressive in terms of strike-rate, the wicketkeeper-batsman needing just 72 deliveries to reach three figures as Afghanistan raced to victory with an astonishing 19 overs to spare.

Scotland had found batting much harder earlier in the day, opener Fraser Watts top-scoring with 55 in their total of 224-9.

Shapoor Zadran (3-24) struck twice with the new ball as the home side slipped to 24-3. Richie Berrington helped steady the ship by contributing 31 in a fourth-wicket alliance worth 68.

However a second collapse left the innings teetering on 118-6. Skipper Gordon Drummond - who belted two fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 35 - provided some late fireworks but it wasn't nearly enough in the final reckoning.
