India will next month replace bowling coach Eric Simons with Joe Dawes.

The BCCI have decided not to renew former South Africa head coach Simons' contract, bringing to a close a two-year tenure at the end of the Australia tour in March.

Dawes played for Queensland between 1997 and 2005 before his career was cut short by a knee injury. His coaching career includes stints with South Australia in first-class competition and the Adelaide Strikers in the Twenty20 Big Bash League.

"Joe Dawes has been appointed the bowling coach of the Indian team for a period of two years," said BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale.

"He will replace Eric Simons, whose term ends at the completion of India's ongoing tour of Australia."

Simons, meanwhile, will take up a post with the Delhi Daredevils in the 2012 Indian Premier League.

Simons' exit comes as India's first major management change after losing their last eight away Tests, encompassed by series whitewashes as the hands of England and India.

"Let the team come back. Then the selectors, the coach, and the others will evaluate what needs to be done further to improve performance if it is considered necessary." added BCCI president Narayanaswamy Srinivasan.
