A superb all-round performance from Ryan ten Doeschate steered the Netherlands to an eight-run win over Afghanistan in the first match of their two-ODI series in Amstelveen on Sunday.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, the Afghans bowled the Dutch out for 188 in 47 overs.
South African-born ten Doeschate weighed in with 58, while Mudassar Bukhari scored 38.
Shapoor Zadran was the pick of the visiting bowlers, taking four for 24 in 10 overs.
In reply, the tourists slumped to 180 all out in 49.5 overs, as seamer ten Doeschate bagged four for 35 and Edgar Schiferli claimed three for 36.
The teams meet again for their final encounter on Tuesday.
