New Zealand have lost the services of Jacob Oram for the final Twenty20 International and ODI series against South Africa.
Oram is nursing an injury sustained during the recent series against Zimbabwe and subsequent scans revealed a strain to the left calf muscle.
"It's hugely disappointing to miss playing against South Africa. I felt pretty good in the matches against Zimbabwe and was looking forward to the series," rue the all-rounder.
"I hate missing matches for New Zealand but I'm confident I can return to cricket injury-free following a course of rehabilitation. I hope to be back playing in about a fortnight."
Team physiotherapist Paul Close added: "Although it's a relatively minor calf injury the congested nature of the series means Jake won't be available for the ODIs."
The Black Caps on Monday announced their squad for the three ODIs against the Proteas, with fast bowler Andy McKay, all-rounder James Franklin and opening batsman Jesse Ryder all back in the fold.
Captain Ross Taylor and batsman Dean Brownlie were not considered for selection due to injury. Brendon McCullum will continue to lead the side in Taylor's absence.
"The squad has a talented mix of experienced internationals and proven performers from domestic cricket," insisted national selection manager Kim Littlejohn.
"James has been in good touch during the current Twenty20 series, while Jesse has been shown that he is ready for a return to top level cricket.
"Andy McKay bolsters the bowling attack and deserves his spot after putting in consistent performances across the season."
The third and final T20i takes place in Auckland on Wednesday. The first ODI gets underway in Wellington on Saturday.
