Mohammad Hafeez hit his fourth career ton and Younis Khan ended the day undefeated on 96 as Pakistan reached a massive 415 for four at stumps on day two of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong on Saturday.
The visitors take a 280-run lead into the third day as they piled on the runs while Bangladesh bowlers toiled in the Chittagong heat.
Hafeez was 74 not out overnight with Pakistan on 132 without loss, while his opening partner Taufeeq Umar resumed the day on 53. Despite it being the start of the day, Bangladesh's bowlers already looked uninspired as Shahadat Hossain bowled the first two balls on the leg side which Hafeez had no problems in whipping away.
The all-rounder seemed untroubled for much of the opening session, but at the other end Taufeeq didn't find batting as easy. The left-hander needed 23 balls to score his first run of the second day and was engrossed in a tough battle with Bangladesh vice-captain Mahmudullah.
Taufeeq could only add eight to his overnight score and was eventually out for 61 as the spinner trapped him in front of the stumps and got the wicket lbw.
The session was all about Hafeez, however, as he pushed Mahmudullah into the covers to bring up a well-deserved century.
Azhar Ali provided adequate support to Hafeez and the pair saw Pakistan through to lunch on 212 for one with Ali unbeaten on 24 and Hafeez 113 not out.
When the afternoon session resumed it proved slightly more fruitful for Bangladesh as they managed two wickets and finally ended Hafeez's marathon stand on 143, albeit rather fortuitously. The right-hander appeared to get a think inside edge onto his pad to an Elias Sunny delivery, but the umpire failed to see the bat's involvement and gave Hafeez out.
Hossain also got some reward as he found some seam movement outside off stump and tempted Ali into a shot (26). The batsman got the edge and Mushfiqur Rahim completed an easy catch.
Khan and skipper Misbah-ul-Haq then showed their years of experience by seeing out the session to the tea break and taking Pakistan to 295 for three.
Misbah (20) became the fourth Pakistan player to fall and it happened in comical fashion. The skipper was given a juicy full toss on middle by Sunny and instead of dispatching it to the boundary, Misbah missed it and was struck on the pad. The umpire correctly raised the finger and that brought Asad Shafiq to the crease to join Khan who went to his 50 off 84 balls.
Khan continued to be untroubled by the Bangladesh bowlers and inched closer toward his hundred as play drew to a close. In the final over of the day the veteran chose to go the patient route and wait until day three to push for his ton rather than seek out a risky boundary.
Shafiq meanwhile was equally strong with the bat and finished the day unbeaten on 40 as Pakistan take a 280-run lead into Sunday.
